My TEDx Talk: Imaginable Intelligence; Everyone deserves to be Heard

Lisa Domican is a Wicklow based mother of two autistic children. She set up the company Grace App Communication, and developed a simple picture communication app in collaboration with a successful games developer that allows non verbal people with Autism and other disabilities to communicate effectively. In interacting with people with autism, Lisa advocates in ‘the 3 As’: Awareness, Acceptance and making Allowances. She hopes through using these steps people can help reduce the challenges that make having living with autism in a world designed for “normal” people so stressful.

Still in the teaching phase with the iTouch here too, but getting this so that I can be familiar with it before my son uses it. He loves technology and this will be great for him (and it was a great excuse for me to make the big purchase!!). Kate: there was a world autism day fundraiser in o2 that morning and "wear your jersey" day. That is the Irish Rugby top. I couldn't wear my vintage wallabies one as it is sponsored by "another" phone company.

I have been following all of the media and think this is a wonderful application. Congratulations.
As an aside - what about a windows mobile version of the same application? I know communicationautism.com developed PixTalk but it won't run on newer 800x420 resolution phones (like my HTC HD2). Our 4 year old daughter on the spectrum shows such aptitude with computers and it would a shame that parents on the dark side (windows mobile platforms!) miss out!

Do I need internet access to run the Grace app, or is it able to be downloaded on my Itouch and can be utilized without internet access??

Hi Julie- once Grace App is purchased on iTunes from the app store; you needn't log on to the internet again.


If you are using an iPhone or iTouch- as we do in school, you can log into iTunes and update the App when in a wifi zone. But you can also download updates on your desktop computer from the internet and just syncronise them to the iTouch or iPhone.

Updates are free - you see a little red number in your App store when there is one available. And we will update whenever the software improves, or we have added in some more pictures or categories.

But other than that the app runs perfectly as is, with or without the internet.
