Talking for Ted

I have had a little secret for about a month now and to be honest, once the embargo on talking about it was lifted I was still very hesitant to share it.

On the 14th of September, I will be appearing at TEDx Dublin and I am absolutely TERRIFIED.

For those of you who don't know; TEDx is a world wide movement in the spirit of TED:-

"an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future"  - (from the TEDx website)

or as I like to think of it: TEDx is "Little Ted" - A local self organized event that brings people together to share a "Big TED" like experience.

Big Ted, Little Ted, Jemima and Humpty from Playschool. They will not be appearing at TEDx

This year's TEDx Dublin is in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre and includes some AWESOME speakers like Seรกn Love from "Fighting Words," Constantin Gurdgiev, the well know economist and Robin Ince from the BBC.

In case you are wondering, I am going to be talking about Communication (my usual schtick)

Take a look at the full line-up here on the TEDx Dublin Website.

It sold out before they announced a single speaker so you can't get tickets. But you could volunteer to help out and be part of it that way: Go here to learn more

We had our first rehearsal last night and I am feeling a little more confident (they didn't hate me) and I got to wear one of those Madonna microphones around my head. So if I forget my talk on the 14th, I will fill the remaining18 minutes with a version of "Vogue"...

I will leave you with a past TED Talk for your enjoyment, from one of my most favourite Autism Researchers; the wonderful Ami Klin

Wow, fantastic news.

Huge break-a-leg. I doubt you'll need to do 'Vogue' but if you want to do it anyway I'm happy to come along and accompany you!!

Massive congratulations! I hope you use the opportunity to do some Zoolander-style brainwashing on the audience and get them formed into some kind of unstoppable Hammie-Army who the rampage across the world wreaking havoc at your whim etc.

Great talk, you had me in tears. It's so good to hear stories of people who have questioned their circumstances and come up with solutions that extend beyond their sphere. Very inspiring!

You presented wonderfully. Incredibly informative and emotive. Thank you!
My godson is 5 and recently identified as Autistic and we're currently learning, with him, how to deal with his world. One thing we've learnt over the last 18months is that first hand experience of those with autism is invaluable. You can hear all the scientific and medical verdicts till the cows come home, but each child is incredibly different and can not be put in an overall 'autistic' box. Hopefully your TEDx talk demonstrated this to those who haven't first hand experiences, and will further help to break down the barriers that are currently faced. I'll be a regular reader of the blog, thank you in advance.
Sandra.
